The Home Office undertook a further period of informal consultation over the development of the code of practice. Responses to that consultation identified a number of issues which required further consideration which the Home Office has worked closely with key partners on. These responses have been integrated into the draft code of practice and the statutory consultation on the surveillance camera code of practice started on 7 February.

 
5.4.ii Undertake a detailed review of all ‘powers of entry’ to remove unjustified powers and add further safeguards to protect the rights of individuals and businesses, including introducing a new Code of Practice to govern how powers of entry are used

The new instant online check was delayed by the need to make urgent changes to the Disclosure and Barring Service’s disclosure system following a Court of Appeal judgement. We laid the relevant secondary legislation on 25 March. The instant online check has completed all development and testing and is due to become operational on 17 June.
